Germany. November 26. Demonstrators staged a sit-in along a railroad track and created barriers to the tracks near Harlingen, Germany Saturday to block a shipment of nuclear waste. Police used pepper spray and water cannons to disperse the 300 anti-nuclear protesters.
Thousands gathered in the town of Dannenberg Saturday to stage a protest rally, while police clashed with around 200 protesters in Dannenberg on Friday.
Activists say the nuclear waste shipments - this shipment traveling from France - are not safe. Chancellor Angela Merkel announced in May that all nuclear plants in Germany will close by 2022.
